It is not the first time in my life that I have been called a negative nancy. It seems, after hearing from some of you, that my blog is a little on the negative side. The best news is bad news. Just look at American Newspapers; they aren't very cheerful. But at times it makes for provocative reading. But to break from the negative, I am going to give this blog a positive spin.
I really do like it hear in Daejeon. I know it sounds like the students are bad and that they are getting to me. They aren't even close to being that much of an issue. Anyone who has taught before knows that little kids will be little kids, no matter the latitude and longitude. They would much rather play with their phones and friends than anything else in the world. And while it is frustrating, it is a universal truth that will no sooner be proven false than the law of gravity.
One of my favorite movie lines of all time comes from a movie starring Aaron Eckhart called Meet Bill. He plays a man in the midst of his mid-life crisis. During the scene he is talking to a kid who is job shadowing him. The kid asks Bill why he works a job that he doesn't like. Eckhart turns to him frustrated and says, "I got news for you kid. It all sucks! So whatever you do, MAKE A LOT OF MONEY!" -- What I mean by this is that people universally do not enjoy working. So if I am going to have a job, why not have one in another country and make it as fun as possible. Everyday here is a chance to learn something new, in a place inexpressibly different from my world, and I am meeting a ton of new people.
There are going to ups and downs in any occupation, in any country. Anyone who disagrees is a hopeless idealist. Everyday here my situation only improves on more and more. I am on an adventure and am filled with an energy that I have not experienced. So that I say this or that bothers me and has got me a little blue, it is not the true reflection of my time here. Not by any means.
KICKS ASS: I am getting a free cell phone. The only part that sucks is I don't get it until Tuesday of next week.
SUCKS ASS: Korean's think body hair is funny and not the norm. Most Korean's don't have it. Anyone who knows me, knows I am screwed.
I DID NOT PROOFREAD THIS AND I AM OPERATING ON THREE HOURS OF SLEEP. CUT ME SOME SLACK DEVANEY.

I haven't thought of your posts as negative - just expressing some very understandable frustrations in getting acclimated to a a TOTALLY different culture halfway around the world! Actually, I think you've done it while maintaining your sense of humor and a great attitude! As for your thoughts on working - I get your point; however, I find I get bored when I'm off work for much time. And work does provide the means for us to enjoy our lives when we have time off!
