Commentary on Conservativism: A Reposting

First let me say that there is no clear way to win the following argument. There are very strong and compelling arguments to be made on both sides. I a just going to say a few things that I know are true and indisputable. Also, I am writing this very quickly before work because it is the only time I have. Do not judge my organization or development please. This is a quick opinion on the matters that I have continually seen and followed on CNN.com. (THIS IS NOT AN ACCUSATION ON CONSERVATIVE REPUBLICANS, JUST THE ONES I HAVE SEE AND HEARD IN THE MEDIA.)

This agenda of the Neo-Conservatives to ruin Barack Obama's name is unbelievable. I read day after day about how his stimulus plan is--failing, un-American, unfair, communist, etc. I am quite tired of hearing this. Where is the support for our new president? I remember, in the not so distant past, when conservatives were crying for support for our president as George W.'s approval ratings were dropping through the floor. And by the way, failing, un-American, and unfair are all adjectives that are befitting of the capitalist, conservative, free market goons that got us into this mess. The ones that are speaking out of both sides of their mouths. "Oh President Obama, please give us bailout money." "Oh President Obama, you bastard, why do you want to tax me to help those who are suffering because of what we did to this country through greed and mismanagment?" (now of course that last statement was a pretty general statement, but it is happening.) On top of all of this, the conservative pundits are a bunch low-lifes that suckle money from America in exchange for what I am convinced is only shock-value, hate-mongering commentary have the gall to criticize after all that has happened(more on that to come. Some of these pundits include egomaniacs like Ann Coulter(possibly Satan incarnate), Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Shawn Hanity(sp?), have the gall to criticize after all that has happened(more on that to come.)

Back to the stimulus plan. How can you say his plan is failing or will fail when he has only been in office for 50 days? Especially, when he has said from the get go (and even I will admit wisely done and a bit contrived to give himself an out if it all comes crashing down.) that this process will take quite some time. Even a child can be made to understand that climbing out of this recession will not be easy nor will it be quick. Why can't the upper echelon of the Republican Party (please notice that this is not an accusation of all conservatives or republicans.)

They say that this stimulus plan is Socialism at its finest. That this will ruin America. In the deregulated, capitalist-conservative world we have lived in these past eight years, which is what the conservatives are crying for America to return to, Americans did not fare very well. In fact we were getting worse. So how could a logical person think that if we stayed on the same track things would magically get better? The economy was, generally speaking, given to the American people, and we did what we do best: waste and waste and waste. We need regulation; we need our government to step in and right the ship. If history has taught us anything it is that it's cyclical, and it is true that history repeats itself. This is because humans never learn from the greed of the past and where it has gotten us. That is why we are in this mess. Barack Obama is not a king. He will be out of office in 4 to 8 years and we will then most likely have a Republican president, and if not then, definitely by 2016. Can you guess what will happen then? We will begin once again to deregulate the corporate sector and fully revive the free-market.

Now, what really bothers me are these glorifications of John Galt, a character from Ayn Rand's ATLAS SHRUGGED, the quintessential selfish, free-market loving, capitalist. All of the Christian-conservative Pundits are speaking out and glorifying this character who, in the book, speaks out against the homeless and needy as the lowest of life forms, an unecessary population that plagues the world. Jesus Christ! Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, the great people at FOX NEWS, and Shawn Hanity revere this character and all that he is symbolic of like the second coming of Christ, and they call themselves Christians! These backseat fecal-flingers are the ones that are doing more to impede progress in our country that any group, and I mean ANY group. These people are the voices of the conservative movement in America; they are Christians, the moral right. They base their lives on the New Testament, whose sole message is caring for those in need. I don't think I need to quote the Sermon on the Mount right now, in fact I think it has become a cliche already to do so in arguments such as mine. They believe in Jesus's teachings and everyday spread fear, filth and hate through televisions into millions of homes. They are the face of the conservative, republican movement. (How do we know they are the face, someone is watching there show, and by someone I mean millions of Americans).

Now I don't know what to say to an honest man who works hard day after day. A man who is affluent and is now losing hard earned money to pay for some who maybe haven't worked as hard or some who are genuinely less fortunate. I don't know. I believe what scares most conservative republicans is not giving money to help the country, but what truly worries them is where is the line. Where is end of this giving. Take a little here and a little there and eventually I have nothing. I understand that. Where is the line on ideology? If I accept this, what else do I have to accept? But I know that there is no one in America that hasn't received a gracious, helping hand when they were down in the dumps. I know that there are those that have made much greater sacrifices for our country than just skimming some fat off the top. I know that we should support this stimulus plan, we should grin and bear it, because we are Americans, and Americans do what is good; American answer the call. At least that is the way we used to define ourselves. Today it seems as though our once-lived pride in social justice has given way to solopsism.

**This being said, I don't know exactly where I stand; I just know crap when I smell it. I am not saying Democrats are the chosen ones and Republicans are the condemned. I am saying that this issue is something I have thought quite a bit about and will continue to think about.

DID NOT PROOFREAD because I am tired of typing and in a rush.

  1. I am in agreement with much of what you say, stinky dick (you live in Korea, therefore you are stinky... what does the gym smell like over there?). I wrote a little journal entry myself saying similar things about a week ago. Great minds think awesomely, I guess.

Take care and good luck with your Asian adventures.
