The Return of Negative Nancy

After trying to be positive, I wrote my last post and now this one. Negative Nancy is back. So I wake up this morning and head to the gym. I am motivated and have a pretty good run. After that I shower off and begin my two mile walk to the post office to pick up a package my mother sent me. I get there only to be told after about 30-40 minutes of waiting that I can come back the next day and pick it up. So I am a little frustrated but things happen. From there I have to walk about another mile to the hospital where I get my physical. I get to the International Medicine Ward, where foreigners are screened, in order to get my results and then go to immigration. The lady behind the counter takes my results out of a folder and says, "I must doctor to tell you physical." In the back of my mind I am thinking, "oh $#!* What could be wrong with my physical results?" After raising my pulse through the ceiling the doctor tells me that my hemaglobin(? spelling) is lower than normal. Nothing to big, and finally I am relaxed.

Next, I walk another mile from the hospital to the place where I work (Why so much walking you ask? It's much cheaper than getting in and out of taxi's and I was feeling ambitious.) I get to work and by now it is 12p.m. and I have to wait for 30 minutes until the secretary shows up to print me off the business certificate for immigration. I finally get that and take a cab ride across town to immigration. After immigration I was supposed to go back to work with my passport and open a bank account with the forementioned secretary at a nearby bank in order to get paid. I get to immigration and give them all the necessary documents. They take my passport and tell me to come back in two weeks and get my passport and Alien I.D. Card! What!?! Now I cannot get paid for two weeks, get insurance for two weeks, or get a cell phone for two weeks!

All of the nice things my boss has done for me are starting to fade into the back of my mind as all of these blunders keep adding up. I am pretty upset at this point. And so, Negative Nancy is back.

One quick side-note. In many of the practice conversations we read in class, there are characters often by the name of Barbara. For some reason, all of the kids in every class, without exception, laugh hysterically at the sight and sound of that name. Quite singular indeed!

KICKS ASS: In Korea uitlity bills are dirt cheap. I pay all of my utilities for less than $60 dollars.

SUCKS ASS: Traffic Lights take forever here. If you don't hit the lights just right, a very short trip can take several mintues and prices can vary drastically for the same cab ride.
