Moments ago, on my way back home, I stopped into a bodega (our equivalent to a quick stop) to buy some laundry detergent. And call me Susan if the store clerk was not dressed in a gian raccoon costume! I couldn't believe it. I really have been dropped into the middle of a different world. I can handle--the food, the language barrier, the driving (get to this in the next paragraph), and everything else. But what really cuts to the core of me is a man wearing a raccoon costume, acceptably so, for no apparent reason. It was black and grey with a big poofy bobtail; complete with eyes and ears on the hood of the costume. Why? That is all I can say. Why?
The drivers over here drive with a purpose: to get where they are going as quickly and efficiently as possible. I respect that. But man do they blatantly not care, nor have any regard for traffic laws or posted speed limits. I would think that vehicle related deaths would be more of a problem than they seem to be. However, until now, I have only seen one accident that looked serious. On the other hand, that is one in a little less than two weeks, so I will get back to you on that one. To exemplify my claim let me provide you with an example. I was riding in a taxi a couple of days ago and the posted speed limit was 60Km. I looked down at my cab drivers speedometer only to see that the needle far exceeded 110Km! Wow! You truly have to look both ways when you cross the street in this country!!
KICKS ASS: Gas is only about $.65 a gallon USD! This is probably due to China's large petroleum reserves.
SUCKS ASS: I don't have a car! :(
